“Rūpa is a Sanskrit word meaning "form". It is said that rūpa is not just the physical existence of an object, but also its tangible nature.”

These Rūpa brushes have horsehair bristles (mane hair gathered without harm to the horse), a smooth wood and plastic body, with an attached cotton strap. Our brushes are imported from Indonesia, designed to elevate your skin-stimulating body care practices/rituals.

What is dry brushing? It is a traditional ritual of stimulating the skin that has roots in Ayurveda (called garshana) as well as Traditional Chinese medicine. If you look further back, history tells us that some form of dry brushing was carried out during the times of the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.

Dry brushing exfoliates dead skin cells which encourages cellular turnover. The motions of regular dry brushing in the morning can help to temporarily boost blood flow/circulation below the skin’s surface.

  • Imported from Indonesia
  • Materials: Horsehair bristles, plastic, polished wood, cotton strap.
  • Dimensions (oval): 12cm (l), 6.4cm (w)
  • Dimensions (circle): 11cm (d)
  • Note: Minimal bristle shedding is normal for first use. For transformative results, we recommend practicing body brushing on dry skin, in the morning.
  • Brush Care: Do not soak or get the base wet. Store in a dry place. To clean, sprinkle bristles with clay or cornstarch. Massage into bristles gently and then shake out all powder. Repeat weekly to absorb and remove dirt + oil. There are different methods of cleaning you can try, whichever method you use, please ensure that, at the end, both the base and the bristles are completely dry.
  • Cautions: Do not use on damp or wet skin. Do not use on irritated, extremely sensitive, broken or sunburned skin. Never brush over-active inflammation e.g. open wounds, inflamed sores, varicose veins. Never brush during an active cancer state or over enlarged lymph nodes. If pregnant seek doctors advice first before dry brushing. Do not share your brush. Always perform an allergy patch test before use. If an allergic reaction appears, stop brushing.
  • Your Ritual:
    • As a general rule of thumb, dry brush no more than one to two times per week.
    • To dry-brush properly, first make sure your skin is completely dry.
    • You should only brush towards the heart. Making long sweeps, avoid back and forth, scrubbing and circular motions.
    • Start at your feet, moving up the legs on both sides, then work from the arms toward your chest. On your stomach, direct the brush counterclockwise.
    • Do not brush too hard. Skin should be stimulated and invigorated but not irritated or red.
    • After brushing your skin, rinse off in the shower. Alternating temperatures in the shower from hot to cold. This will further invigorate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, bringing more blood to the outer layers of the skin.
    • Once finished, complete your dry brushing routine with a shower to rinse off any remaining residue and apply a WYLD Body Oil to moisturize skin.
    • Tip for easy clean up: Stand on a towel or in the shower to dry brush as dead skin cells can be sloughed off in the process.
