Sukha Face & Body Oil
There's something that feels grounding about combining herbs and oils together, expressing gratitude and good intentions over the mixture, and infusing it to be used later in various ways. To honour this process, I've named this oil Sukha, which translates to happiness, pleasure, ease, joy or bliss in Sanskrit.
Sukha is a handcrafted infusion of Madder Root, White Turmeric, Saffron, Sandalwood, Blue Lotus, Green Cardamom, Tanner’s Cassia, Licorice Root, and Indian Barberry Root with Hibiscus, Borage, Camellia, Babassu, Abyssinian, Grapeseed, Sunflower Seed, Jojoba, Sesame, Oat Kernel, Sidr Leaf, Baobab, Rice Bran, and Vitamin E Oils. Sukha contains Geranium Essential Oil and Vitamin C.
To make Sukha, I used the double boiler method. This method involves placing a stainless-steel vessel over a saucepan of simmering water and watching the little vessel carefully over the span of a few hours. As I watched this mixture blossom, I intuitively added herbs and flowers as time went on. The oil was then strained and left aside overnight to settle. The next day, after a second strain, essential oils and vitamins were added in. The oil was then slowly stirred and carefully bottled.
Saffron
"Extracted from the crocus flowers’ red stigmas, Saffron is one of nature’s most potent, antioxidant-rich ingredients, widely known for its myriad health benefits. A powerhouse of vitamin A, B, C and crocin, these phytoactive molecules promise instant brightness and radiance to the skin."
Madder Root
"Madder Root possesses potent skin-brightening properties that can help reduce the appearance of dark spots, blemishes, and pigmentation. The herb inhibits the production of melanin, thus resulting in a brighter and more even complexion."
Tanner's Cassia
"Rich in antioxidants and natural astringent properties, Tanner's Cassia or Avarampoo benefits the skin by purifying pores, reducing acne, and improving skin elasticity."
Sandalwood
"A powerful skin antiseptic with anti-microbial properties, its useful in clearing blackheads and spots, helps moisturize dry skin and relieves itching and inflammation."
Blue Lotus
"Blue lotus contains compounds called polysaccharides and terpenes which act as natural moisturizers and can help to balance the skin's oil content. These compounds also have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, meaning that they can help to reduce redness and irritation on the skin."
Hibiscus Oil
"Hibiscus has great anti-aging benefits because it maintains elastin in the skin by decreasing the activity of elastase, an enzyme that breaks down our skin’s natural elastin. It is also loaded with vitamin C, which is vital for collagen production, and it is rich in specific antioxidants called anthocyanins, which fight off free radicals, prevent premature skin aging, and decrease inflammation."
Babassu Oil
"Babassu oil is used as an emollient in skincare, which contributes to softer, smoother skin. Skin naturally contains lauric acid, which also occurs in over 50% of the fatty acids in babassu oil. This helps give the skin plumpness and plenty of moisture. Plus, lauric acid helps reduce skin irritation. Babassu also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties."
Oat Kernel Oil
"Oat kernel oil is non-comedogenic and can even reduce the appearance of papules and blackheads, making it a great choice for acne prone skin types. The oil contains ceramide, a lipid that can be naturally found in the epidermis, creating a barrier on the skin alongside sebum to protect it and maintain moisture."
Geranium Essential Oil
"Geranium Essential Oil is reputed to effectively eliminate dead cells, tighten the skin, promote the regeneration of new skin, and diminish signs of aging."
Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vitamin C)
"Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is an oil-soluble, next-generation vitamin C that has superior dermal absorption. It is highly bioavailable, penetrating deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and promote skin firmness and elasticity. It also offers potent antioxidant properties, protecting the skin from free radicals and environmental damage such as UV radiation and pollution."
- 30ml
- Handcrafted in small batches (6 bottles at a time)
- Housed in a clear glass dropper bottle
- NOTE: Although widely used, Vitamin C isn’t for everybody. There are other antioxidant formulas that can provide similar benefits and may be more tailored to your skin's needs.
- Suitability: For those at the age of 25 onwards.
- Your Ritual (face): Face oils work best as the last step in your skincare routine to seal in all the moisture underneath it. Put one drop in the palm of your hand, mix it with a little bit of hydrosol. Spread the emulsion between your palms, gently pat it on skin (face and neck) or lightly massage it using a sweeping upward and outward motion. Avoid direct contact with the entire eye area. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water. If skin irritation develops, please discontinue use immediately. Tip: we recommend applying Sukha at least 20 minutes before lying down. This gives the oil enough time to fully absorb into your skin.
- Your Ritual (body): Apply a few drops (the key is to use it sparingly) right after a shower whilst your skin is still damp for better absorption. Or mix a few drops with your favorite body lotion, cream or butter to enhance its benefits. Tip: we recommend applying Sukha at least 20 minutes before lying down. This gives the oil enough time to fully absorb into your skin.
- Frequency: Can be applied once (morning or evening), 2 - 3 times a week. Please remember to always apply sunscreen if you’re using it during the daytime. Apply chemical sunscreens before facial oil and mineral sunscreens after facial oil for adequate sun protection. It is important to wait at least five minutes between each step to give the oil enough time to absorb.
