Mushrooms are one of nature's miracles and we're experiencing fungi fever in full bloom. They have been used medicinally for centuries as powerful anti-agers and immune-boosters. As a rich source of vitamin D, protein and antioxidants, it has been made clear that adding a portobello salad or porcini ravioli to your menu will benefit the body.

Despite the seemingly recent "shroom boom", mushrooms aren't really new to the skincare scene. "Mushrooms have long been used in Asia for their ability to improve health, maintain vitality, preserve a youthful appearance, and to counter the adverse health effects of chronic stress. Studies on unique mushroom species show promising anti-inflammatory effects and the topical use of these mushrooms may help protect skin from skin damage caused by environmental aggressors."

• Your Ritual: Apply a small amount to cleansed skin. Leave on for 10-20 minutes, starting at the lower end if you have sensitive skin. Once finished, rinse well with lukewarm water. Follow with a treatment product, such as a toner, serum, mask, or moisturizer, for your skin type.
  Frequency: One to two times per week after cleansing skin, or as needed.
