With a history dating back 2000 years to ancient Chinese dynasties, gua sha has been used for centuries and is recorded as one of the oldest forms of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This ancient practice, which originated in the Paleolithic Age, involved rubbing hands or stones on the body to relieve pain and symptoms in times of illness or unconsciousness.

Β

Gua sha, which translates to "scraping away illness", utilizes various tools such as bian stone, jade, and ox horn to repetitively rub different parts of the body in one direction. This action aims to activate blood circulation and reduce blood stasis, in accordance with TCM practices that have evolved over time to effectively alleviate a multitude of conditions and illnesses.

Β

According to Chinese culture, "gua" means stroking, and "sha" refers to red or purple spots that develop on the skin. The stagnation of blood in the skin is a common result of gua sha treatment, caused by a weak flow or circulation.

Β

  • Measurements: 11.8cm x 6.7cm
  • Material: Teak Wood (Kayu Jati). The wood has its own specific structure and therefore each tool is original and may differ slightly from the product photos.
  • Cautions: Please refrain from using this tool if you suffer from infections, tumors, bleeding and clotting disorders,Β bruises, wounds and other lesions, if you are taking anticoagulants, if you have facial implants (consult your physician first). If a lesion is small like a wart or zit, just avoid that area.
  • Your Ritual: Apply oil to cleansed skin. It is important that gua sha slides on the skin. With light pressure and simple strokes, guide the tool with the longer side down the face from the center outwards. Keep the tool flat against the face and begin with the forehead. Scrape in an upwards motion from the eyebrows to the hairline.Β Move to the cheeks and scrape in an outwards motion starting from the crease of the nose until the ear.Β Move to the jawline and use the end of the gua sha tool with curves. Start from the chin and scrape until the ear. Gently massage the gua sha tool into the ear to release tension. For the under-eye area, very gently scrape the gua sha tool from the inner corner of the eye outwards to the temple. Because the area is so sensitive, it is important to only apply light pressure. Repeat each move 6-8 times.
  • Care: Wipe clean after each use. Do not soak.
